![]() That's a < 50 USD solution, and worth a try. in plastic buckets (with holes for ethernet cabling, and slight air exchange – you don't want condensation). What you should try alternatively is really just throwing cheap access points (ebay!) with low-gain antennas on top of your roofs, so that they have line of sight, and place them e.g. Unless your neighbor does the same: antennas work reciprocal, so he gets 30 dB more from your direction – and since you also get 30 dB more, you've increased your link budget by 30 dB.īut: this requires highly directional antennas on both ends a situation where you still win, even if both of you have to reduce output power. ![]() Sadly, that alone doesn't help, because wifi and the internet requires the link to be about as good in both directions. For you, it looks a little better: you receive your neighbor's wifi with 30 dB more power. That means that if your wifi device previously put out the full amount it was allowed to with its antenna, and your dish has 30 dB more gain, you must reduce your power by 30 dB¹ – and to the receiver at the other end (your neighbor), that looks like you just where using the original antenna, just mounted on a roof. In most countries, Wifi radiation is legally limited by measures of EIRP, i.e "if I had an antenna that radiates as much in every direction as mine does in the main direction, how much power would that antenna radiate?". Have any better suggestions for a wireless setup? ![]() In your case, that's easy: Access points come with ethernet cabling, and are far smaller than the satellite dish you're planning to install, so moving it close to the dish is far more feasible than attaching the dish to your wifi device far away. Radio wisdom is to put the receiver as close to the antenna as possible. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dress up your door with a Halloween wreath or a witch broom, or hang oversized spiders that will wow your party guests. The film is about Elliot ( Christopher), a fisherman with a hidden talent as a singer-songwriter who is discovered one night by Suzanne, the widow of the greatest Danish musician of all-time ( Christine Albeck Børge) who convinces him to record a song with her daughter Lilly ( Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas). But you can watch A Beautiful Life on a lazy weekend if you are in the mood for a “feel good” film.I’m so frustrated having to review A Beautiful Life, a Danish-language Netflix Original movie directed by Mehdi Avaz and written by Stefan Jaworski. And the tendency is to always go back to films that touched our hearts or emotionally wrecked us. There are way too many options when it comes to the genre, and you cannot help but compare. The film did not strike an emotional chord, though, of course, that is purely my personal opinion. The film has drama, romance, and music to keep the audience entertained. It is a light-hearted film that does not require too much of your attention. You already know what you are going for from the very beginning of the film. It is the predictability of A Beautiful Life that makes it unmemorable and, at best, an average watch. As the daughter of a music legend, Lilly often doubted herself and so, when Elliott arrived in her life, she was forced to confront her fears, and the challenge helped her evolve. Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas as Lilly was convincing, and she got the emotions right. However, the background score was quite unimpressive. Not only did he impress with his acting skills, but the songs he wrote and sang for the film were catchy and emotional. The Danish singer is a delight to watch on-screen. Christopher as Elliott adds to the charm of A Beautiful Life. However, I am not a fan of the warm tint that is used throughout the film. There are certain scenes in A Beautiful Life that are shot beautifully I particularly enjoyed the way the indoor spaces were lit (especially the cabin). I would not go as far as to say that I was emotionally invested in their relationship, but it was interesting to watch two individuals with traumatic pasts navigate their individual shortcomings to form a bond. Particularly, the scene where Lilly stays at Elliott’s cabin for the first time was visually pleasing. Elliott’s and Lilly’s evolving dynamics were interesting. It is this aspect that works in favor of the film and acts as somewhat of a differentiating factor. He could either choose the comfortable life he was used to or take a plunge into the unknown for the love of music. Elliott never truly pursued a musical career he did not even dream of becoming a music star, and he was overwhelmed by the fear of his life taking a turn for the worse. While success and money are enticing, to become a star, a complete change of lifestyle is necessary. In the end, he had to decide whether he wanted to make it big or go back to being the fisherman he used to be.Ī Beautiful Life brings forth the dilemma of becoming a star. A few hurdles came along the way that made Elliott question his talent and his ambition. Elliott eventually proved Lilly wrong by writing a song that he resonated with. She wanted her daughter, Lilly, to produce his music, but Lilly was not as impressed by Elliott as her mother was. Suzanne knew that Elliott was talented enough to become a star he simply needed some polishing. He did not accept the offer immediately, but he gradually came around. Renowned musician Vince Taylor’s widow, Suzanne Taylor, took note of Elliott and offered him money to stay out of trouble and spend time with her. ![]() Elliott stepped up to help his friend, and his voice mesmerized the audience. ![]() When Oliver noticed people leaving as soon as he started performing, he froze. While Oliver was a dedicated singer, he lacked talent. When his best friend, Oliver, offered to pay him for a gig, he agreed to it. Most of his days were spent at the dock, where he worked, though the payment often left him unsatisfied. A few boxes were checked with the characters’ past trauma, but it felt quite superficial.Ī Beautiful Life is the journey of a fisherman who becomes a musical sensation. Mehdi Avaz’s A Beautiful Life lacks the flow that was necessary for the journey to unwind. It is not just the plot that matters rather, it is the narrative that is crucial. The emotions were raw, and the characters were layered. But there is so much more to the plot than just that. The film also dealt with the journey of a singer who was discovered by a seasoned musician at a drag bar. While thinking about rags-to-riches stories, I was reminded of a dozen films, but I think Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born is the perfect example for comparison. In A Beautiful Life, we arrive at it using the usual tropes. There is nothing wrong with a positive ending what matters is how we arrive at it. ![]() ![]() ![]() The water pressure at 12,000 feet below sea level is a formidable force that shapes the deep-sea environment.
